What is SPAM?
Our definition of SPAM includes not only unsolicited commercial email (UCE), but also email-delivered viruses and bulk emails with fraudulent, but not necessarily commercial content: identify theft, confidence tricks, pyramid schemes, and other scams.
The historical justification for our inclusive definition lies in the origin of the term SPAM to refer unwanted internet traffic. The term arose on Usenet as acryonym of “Simultaneous Posting Across Multiple [Newsgroups],” as well as an homage to the famous Monty Python skit in which no meal could be served without a trademarked potted meat product.
